Simone Severini

Simone Severini is Director of Quantum Computing at AWS where he is responsible for quantum technologies. In this role, Simone contributed to launch Amazon Braket, AWS’s managed quantum computing service that gives researchers and developers access to different types of quantum hardware; Amazon Quantum Solutions Lab, a professional services organization that helps customers research and identify the most promising applications of quantum computing; the AWS Center for Quantum Computing, an R&D organization working with academia towards building a fault-tolerant quantum computer; and the AWS Center for Quantum Networking, an R&D organization addressing scientific and engineering challenges to connect and amplify the capabilities of individual quantum computers. He is also a Professor of Physics of Information at University College London (UCL).

Prior to joining AWS, he held advisory roles in the public sector, private equity funds, and some of the world’s first quantum technologies startups, such as Quantinuum and PhaseCraft. Simone received a degree in Logic and Philosophy of Science from the University of Florence and a PhD in Quantum Computing from the University of Bristol.
